an enjoyable thread here.... Go for it, doc--always enjoyed running in to you and whomever @ Belmont and Toga--good thoughts wow--I don't do that type of whiskey, but occasionally do Oban, Balvenie, Macallan, Glenmorangie
Maybe a little alcohol to clean off your stylus(don't waste much!)
Was downstairs listening to a 1st press mono copy of Butterfield's 1st lp--amazing band Now Christmas music for the rest of the season: Atkins, Duke, Kenton, Mathis, King Cole, Larry Sparks, Grisman, Fahey, Grover--so many

another Robert Earl favorite that came to mind---it mirrors my thoughts from last Sunday when attending the annual/local Blues Christmas party, where the local players get together for a night to benefit the homeless....Everyone home for the holidays + everyone here shows up one night a year to socialize---I might be able to find a few live clips to post:

was at a football party Monday night--no Pappy but a lot of Blantons and Manhattans---then a switch to their new favorite Taylors--anyone familiar with that brand?

Got an email this morning about Taylor's from my local proprietor.
Two New Duncan Taylor Arrivals! We received two Duncan Taylor Whiskies today! First, we got the Black Bull 21 Year old that is blended using lots of Speyside and Highland malts that have been aged in both ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. Second, we have the Huntly which is part of the Octave line. The key to this line is the small barrels they are using for aging. And by small, we mean small! The casks are 1/8 the size of a standard casks! This barrel only holds 50 liters which means the oak can make a big impact!
Black Bull 21 year, 50% Duncan Taylor's Notes: "Stoically independent and without compromise. Black Bull was first released to discerning drinkers in 1864, and has since grown to become a renowned whisky of quality, offering a powerful sensory experience, and delivering indulgent, uncompromised depth. Black Bull is still blended to the same formula today as was used in the very beginning, using a large percentage of quality Speyside and Highland malts, matured in sherry and bourbon casks, blended to a high malt to grain ratio, and finally bottled at a robust 50% abv. Black Bull 21 is unfettered by chill filtration, allowing the character of each carefully selected 21 year old whisky to shine through to its full potential, resulting in a unique blend that is outstanding in its field. NOSE: Citrus, red apples, tangerines with a touch of caramel. TASTE: Very lively and fresh with zesty notes. Nutmeg and cloves with sweetness of vanilla and barley sugars emerging. An excellent balance. FINISH: Warming pepper, gentle nutty notes and toasted marshmallows to finish. A fantastic expression, reminds us of Christmas. Professional Press: "Usually, adding water to an overproof whisky is a necessity yet with this 21-year-old blended Scotch, it's part of the fun. It changes in character with the addition of every single drop. Find the right balance and the reward is a savory profile that channels mouthwatering hints of vanilla, dark chocolate, iodine and green olive, finishing with a bracing billow of peat smoke and roasted jalapeño." 93 Points, Wine Enthusiast Regular Price: $169.99 per 750ml Featured Price: $139.99 net per 750ml
The Huntly, 1998, 18 year, 47.6% Please note, the picture displayed is used for context only. It is not actually whisky for sale. Town's Notes: "While we cannot definitively say what this whisky, we believe that it is Balvenie 'teaspooned' with a touch of Glenfiddich. The nose shows more of a Bourbon influence similar to Balvenie with notes of orange, citrus, apple skin, and grains. As soon as the malt hits the palate, the rich lush nature of the whisky washes over the tongue. The rich baked apple and citrus fruits work really well with the spice and the dry middle from the bourbon. The drier midpalate really showcases the nuance and complexity of the malt. The malt continues on and on with along finish." Duncan Taylor's Notes: "For upwards of 40 years the team at Duncan Taylor has experimented by maturing whiskies in smaller casks with great success. Our research stemmed from the simple premise that there is more wood interaction with whisky over a shorter period of time in a small cask than in a large cask, therefore allowing a more rapid melding of wood, air and alcohol. After a second maturation the octave casks have refined the whisky, enhancing its hue, taste, form and character. The flavour profile is gently expanded, a little more sophisticated with the commanding presence of a mature, well-balanced Scotch Whisky. They have become 'Octave Invigorated™. The Octave Collection is extensive with something for all tastes, be it a single malt, a single grain or a blended malt whisky. Featured distilleries include Aultmore, Bhunnahabhain, Brackla, Caol Ila, Glenallachie, Glen Moray, Highland Park, Miltonduff and Tobermory." This Speyside whiskey spent three months finishing in an Octave cask. Only 67 bottles were produced. Regular Price: $149.99 per 750ml Featured Price: $119.99 net per 750ml
