Should Myles Garrett be DQ'ed for the next 6 games for clocking the Pittsburgh QB, charged with assault, or as my topic indicates, be banished for life from the NFL?

of course he should be suspended for the season and perhaps charged with assault....remember Marty McSorley knocking out Donald Barshear with his hockey in a game in 2000...he was suspended for the year, charged and convicted of assault...he never played again....however this won't happen in the NFL where the league is terrified by the players union...he'll get a suspension, fine and such but he'll be back...earlier this season Vontaze Burfict was suspended for the year only because he was a repeat offender...this is Garrett's first offense so he'll get a cursory punishment...however I would think the NFL legal team would like to really come down on him to publicly show that they're trying to do right in light of the pending CTE suits....just sayin'

There's tons of posts on the Pitt message board about this (I don't visit any Steelers forums, assume they exist) and talk on the sports talk radio this morning. I was at the Pitt game and missed the incident live but saw replays at Jerome Bettis's place near Heinz Field after the games. Maybe I'm missing something, but I've seen no one mention that from the replays I saw it appeared that while Garrett and Rudolph were "scrumming" about on the ground Rudolph first grabbed Garrett's helmet and began twisting it as if to pull it (or Garrett's head) off, after which the incident escalated with Garrett ripping off Rudolph's helmet. Not saying that that action would've justified Garrett's use of the helmet as a weapon, but it didn't seem to me that Rudolph was innocent and the incident was provoked. Maybe I didn't see it correctly, because no one is mentioning that.
In any event, lifetime ban? No, lengthy suspension, yes. I see they have already suspended/banned him for an indeterminate time. We'll have to wait as they contemplate the appropriate punishment.

Watch this clip, around the 16 second mark: www.espn.com/video/clip?id=28083528Fox seemed to be showing different angles last night. Rudolph stars grabbing Garrett's helmet and ripping at it.

Now I hear Steven A Smith clamoring about how the difference in Garret's punishment is so much harsher than that given to ex-Raider Richie Incognito. Gimme a break. Steven A Smith is an idiot imo. And should never ever be allowed to make anther tv commercial. Remember the one he made for beef jerky? Stick to arguing with Max Kellerman daily Steven...you say you are waiting on that film Bev? What ever happened to that thing?

NFL is a joke. Head hunting all night long from watching replays. Predictable social media outrage in the moments after an elevated rugby scrum. NFL reacts to old guy media talking heads to do something.

It looks like Rudolph was trying to pry Garrett’s helmet off. That’s one thing. But, Garrett tried to rip Rudolph’s helmet off of him by yanking on it. He yanked on it so hard, he actually lifted Rudolph up off the turf. That, in my opinion, could have turned very bad for Rudolph. Garrett could have broken Rudolph’s neck.
Pouncey kicking Garrett in his head could have turned out just as bad.
Pure violence. There should be no room for that in sports, or society. Sadly, it is increasing in both in our country.
The NFL needs to send the correct message here. We are starting to see more violent encounters than any other time in sports history, involving many different sports.
There are plenty of ‘thugs’ in present day sports these days.
I have no idea what the correct consequence would be, but my hope is that it is well thought out and effective.

I won’t “defend” Garrett, he clearly lost his cool and stepped well over the line, nor should a player simply make himself a doormat. However, the whole incident began with a late tackle. Not a vicious cheap hit, but a late put down. It happens frequently enough without becoming such an ugly mess. Rudolph seemed to be feeling the frustration of the night and instead of letting it go and looking for a penalty he chose to escalate things and tried to rip Garrett’s helmets off. He was as successful at that as he was at running the Steelers’ offense. Garret showed him how it was done and the two were quickly separated. The incident would’ve been over but Rudolph then went after Garrett again. My primary point is Rudolph is not without plenty of blame here but few if any are talking about that, especially here in Pittsburgh.

That’s a great point Hooper....think everyone expects a fight during a hockey game....actually if you think about it.....tackling someone to keep them from getting to the goal line is not a friendly gesture....

As a lifer suffering Browns fan, I watched the whole game. After the pathetic tackling vsDenver in the prior game, I expected a strong D effort vs Rudolph. Browns we’re doing over the top head shots all night resulting in Connor, juju, and #18 all concussed.
I did see the Pitt qb grab garrets helmet first, then the dumb shit chased down garret like he was going to fight him. 8 f’n seconds left in an impressive win—no reason For Myles g to do something that incredibly stupid and destructive to the team.
I lay a lot of blame onKichens for coaching his team in to that kind of violent effort(it was brewing throughout). Freddie has made bad decisions all season and is a true NFL(not for long) coach. Rudolph and his wrs had their butts kicked all night and the qb lost his cool also. Very unfortunate ending, with the more interesting angle being that the two teams play again @ Pitt in two weeks. Wouldn’t want to be a browns O player then.

Totally agree that Kitchens is a lousy coach, no business being a head coach imo. The NFL is almost non watchable. The reviews are too long, the rules seem to get changed all the time. Goodell sucks. I can say that I still consider Jim Brown the best RB in NFL history...

Spanky - I think Incognito was the the one hit with the helmet in the only previous example I've seen dug up. Penalty that time was 2 preseason and 1 regular season game. Things have changed in the world, but it's the some commissioner and polices in place at the NFL. Honestly something in the 4-6 game range would be fine. If he had a Burfict or Suh type history then much longer, but he doesn't really have any history.
Turned out to be a good move for the Steelers as no everyone seems to have forgotten how abysmal they played, especially Rudolph. Kind of let them off the hook and now gives them something to rally around. If they can get enough healthy bodies to make a run is doubtful though.

With the interjection of allegations of a racial term being used by Rudolph, this thing has heated up again, just as it was dying down. Lots of outrage in Pittsburgh over Garrett's allegations.
