Yup. 2017 I think with an Apple Watch.
USA Today
Major League Baseball fined the Boston Red Sox an undisclosed amount Friday for their sign-stealing scheme that utilized an Apple Watch to gain an advantage on opponents - but also fined the New York Yankees, who reported the Red Sox's illegal maneuvers, for previous use of a dugout phone to gain an advantage.
In assessing its discipline, MLB acknowledged that what the Red Sox did was wrong - but in punishing the Yankees in concert, seemed to imply that clubs best handle these situations among themselves.
With that said, Commissioner Rob Manfred noted that future violations involving the use of banned technology in the dugout could result in harsher sanctions for any team.
"All 30 Clubs," Manfred wrote, "have been notified that future violations of this type will be subject to more serious sanctions, including the possible loss of draft picks."
The Red Sox's system of relaying opposing pitch selections to their batters - involving the use of replay cameras in their clubhouse, an assistant trainer wearing an Apple Watch and disabled players in the dugout signaling to runners on second base - came to light after the New York Yankees filed a complaint with MLB.
Seems like they could have parlayed that into a marketing deal with Apple!. Sign-stealing has existed I think ever since there were signs. I can't get too worked up about it but maybe as technology has improved it should be taken more seriously.
