I believe the owner is responsible here...if a person had a pet they loved that passed they would bury it..or cremate it...something humane... If they had any consideration for this animal at all it should have been treated with dignity at the end of it’s run.... I have seen names I recognize from racing on horse rescue pages....no longer worthy to the owner... Sad that the sport keeps getting punched in the face due to those who are only concerned about the bottom line...

RIP BRIDGET MOLONEY you deserved better. I actually bet her last out at MNR... based on this, the horse that flipped in the gate last week still running and them letting a mare run this week off a 5 year layoff who has a foal racing, I'm done with MNR until there are some major changes... This issue alone does seem a bit odd though, I mean, who took that picture? Based on PITA's track record, they could have bought her, killed her and dumped her there for the photo... they did a lot worse at the dairy farm in Indiana...

Based on PITA's track record, they could have bought her, killed her and dumped her there for the photo... they did a lot worse at the dairy farm in Indiana... Hard to keep blaming stuff on PETA when that same night, Sophie Got Even, who was purchased as a broodmare, made her 1st start since June 2014 in a $4K claiming event. October 14 at Mountaineer, 9 year old mare Little Red Diamond made her fourth start of 2019. Prior to her first race of 2019 in August, she had not been seen at the races since October 22, 2014. Her record for 2019 is beaten 84 lengths in those 4 races. On October 15, rescuers pulled two of Burton Sipp's horses out of a kill pen --- who had raced the week before.......how many does that make for him? It's almost constant! Guess PETA arranges all this stuff too?

PETA is not one of racing’s issues imo

The conversation should be about PREVENTABLE deaths. If you are at all into horse racing integrity act, national uniform medication programs, or anything having to do with making tracks safer or race horse safety, we have to use that phrase.
Otherwise you'll just get the whole spiel about how deaths of athletes in every sport are going to happen, blah blah blah (um, yeah, like we wouldn't know this? It's not to be used as an excuse though)
Preventable vehicular deaths, preventable deaths of children, cyclists, etc. have come a LONG WAY in the years since I was born, and this is accomplished by task forces, meticulously kept records, studies and scientific data, as well as public awareness programs (like how not to run over your puppy or child in your own driveway). By those who care to address it. And those willling to do the work to address it.
THIS is what racing should be aiming for. The reason the public and media has come down on racing is because they see there is no strategic plans with statutes to back them up, happening at many tracks, and even racing fans have begun to realize that we cannot trust racing commissions and track owners to PROPERLY conduct this sport.
Anyway, there is plenty of data and science coming out every year, both about horses musculoskeletal systems, cardiovascular systems; about medications; about track surfaces, about age of first race, etc. and all of it can be used THOUGHTFULLLY and WISELY to try to put together a picture of how we might reduce PREVENTABLE deaths.
I guess I don't understand those who are not in favor of turning over every stone and approaching this in a dilligent, scientific manner.... Why would anyone who loves the sport, or loves the horses, NOT want to do this? It makes no sense to me.
