Now that we've had our college football snack, it's time for the main course. Full slate today and I'm looking for some thoughts from the UIC faithful. Back to Desmond Howard giggling, Kirk's commercials on Home Depot and Reese Davis holding it all together. We'll probably see 85 year old Lee Corso in a limited role as he continues to battle back from a stroke. I think we'll still hear "not so fast my friends" but Lee will be limited I think. Predictions from "Bear" are dicey at best. But College Game Day has become a fixture in college football with the signs that fans come up with! Very creative for the most part.

College GameDay has been a fixture in my home since ESPN took the airwaves in 1987. Originally hosted by Lee Corso, Tim Brando and Beano Cook. My favorite though was Tim Fowler. He provided player and game info that was not provided by CBS & ABC. (Speaking of ABC, I was able to meet sportscasters from the network while working in television - Keith Jackson, Dave Diles and Jim McKay)
My picks for today's games will highlight the ACC.
East Carolina @ North Carolina St NC St -17, easy win and cover for NC St. South Carolina @ North Carolina South Carolina -11, North Carolina is starting a freshman QB and defense still suspect. South Carolina will cover UPSET PICK: Virginia Tech favored 4 1/2 over Boston College. Taking the points and BC for the win. Virginia 2 1/2 @ Pittsburgh. Virginia to cover

Syr -18.5 at Liberty looks somewhat inviting.
Maryland -31 over Howard. Vegas Insider shows 4 of the 7 books they list offering this game including MGM Mirage. I think 51 would be a more realistic spread.
Think I also like LSU -27 over Ga Southern
The blind hog for 3 acorns today. 8>)

I hit the total on the Ducks/Tigers game but had the Ducks +4 on the game. Bummer to lose this one but it was a great game! Oregon vs. Utah should be a barn burner! I have Fresno St. +13 (game in progress).

Very nice Hugh! Beano Cook brings back great memories. The Howard Cosell era. But for my money Keith Jackson is the king of college football sports casters. I recall watching college football with my late Dad and Jackson calling the games. Thanks for those thoughts Hugh!

Only 2 games today. Bethune Cookman -7.5 at Jackson St. Probably no one would be interested but I think Jackson might win it straight up.
Houston +23 at Okla. Would prefer Okla but might be too close to actually bet it.
One game pm Labor Day - Notre Dame -18 at Louisville. I'm edging toward ND to cover.

I'm taking the Sooners because they have the QB that transferred from Alabama. I'll play against the Irish tomorrow. Only a true gambling degenerate would bet Jackson State. Like you're style B Nag!

Changed my mind and took Houston +22' and Under 69'. Houston covered but lost the total by 1 point. Lost the vig but had Stan the Man over The Joker in the US Open. Stan beat the defending champ when The Joker retired with a hurt shoulder. Sadly, the classless fans in NYC booed him as he left the court...
