Very nice Saturday card at The Curragh, three Group races and a couple of nice handicaps. Fleeting (1/2 sister to "our" unraced 2yo filly Attendante) runs in the Irish Oaks (12F) against three other top-rated fillies (Iridessa, Pink Dogwood and Star Catcher).
Welcome to Ireland...

Race 1- (9:15EDT) 2yo MDN 7F:
12 maidens, two have run previously. #6- Longclaw (12-1) is a Kitten's Joy colt bred by the Ramseys. First three dams were all stakes-placed at middle-distances, some appeal. #7- Mosala (20-1) is an interesting mixture of speed (Kodiac) over a German-bred Red Ransom mare. #4- Iberia (Galileo), #10- Sherpa (Zoffany), and #3- Geometrical (Dawn Approach) are taking money among the FTS.
Ex- 3/4,6,7,10
Race 2- (9:50) 3up f HCP 1MI:
#3- Crafty Madam (2-1) rallied for a head victory over course and distance in a richer HCP last out, picks up a lot of weight from that score. #4- Waitingfortheday (4-1) seems aptly named, always close at the finish but hasn't won in a year-and-a-day. #5- Dame Kyteler (5-1) fresh off a maiden win, but cold in the early wagering. #1- Black Magic Woman (6-1) overmatched in GIII last time, picks up highweight and an extra furlong. #6- Leagan Gaeilge (5-1) turns back to a mile, wasn't far off in a better HCP here in May. Big chance at a square price.
Ex- 3,6/3,4,5,6

Race 3- (10:25EDT) 3up PHCP $144K 6.5F:
Aurora Eclipse is out, 19 runners. #4- Intisaab (7-1) won this race last year by 3/4 from today's rival #2- Ardhoomey (20-1). Intisaab traveled to Dubai over the winter and had his form go sour after being beaten into submission by Riflescope among others; wasn't embarrassed at Royal Ascot against better, gets the services of Dettori today, interesting. #3- Chessman (8-1) was game in defeat last out, hard to endorse for the win but can use underneath. #1- Smash Williams (6-1) stretches out to 6F, gets a jockey change, two of 3 wins over this course, don't ignore. Lightly-raced #7- Buffer Zone (5-1) won his prep for this, needs to improve again but not out of this. #18- Verhoyen (15-1) figures to race prominently, is in top form now and turns back a furlong. Big price.

Bam!! Verhoyen took the lead and led them all on a merry chase at (17-1), with Buffer Zone along for second. That was fun.
$3 WP= $66.00
$1 Ex= $137.80

Race 4- (11:00EDT) 2yo Anglesey S. GIII 6.5F:
#6- Lil Grey (5-1) may not have cared for the soft going when sixth of 25 runners in the Albany S. at Royal Ascot last month. Sheila Lavery-charge beat colts easily over the course and distance last month, has to contend with unbeaten A. O'Brien favorite #2- Pistoletto, who stretches out a furlong after a short layoff, not unbeatable however.

Race 5- (11:35EDT) 3up Minstrel S. GII 7F:
#3- Hey Gaman (7-2) won a GIII at Longchamp in May, was second in the French Poule D'essai Des Poulains-GI at a mile last spring. Dettori takes the mount. #5- Romanised (2-1) Irish Two Thousand Guineas-GI winner here as a 3yo, has been facing GI-company lately, will have a strong chance today. #6- Safe Voyage (5-1) loves the 7F distance, won a GIII last out, should give them all they can handle. Acts on all types of ground.
Ex- 5/3,6

Race 6- (12:10EDT) 3yo f Irish Oaks GI 1 1/2MI:
Antonia De Vega, Operatic Export are out. #2- Fleeting (9-2) GII winner takes another shot at top-level foes, will have to see if jockey D. O'Brien holds her up at the back for a late run, or adopts a new tactic. Top three finish likely. #3- Iridessa (3-1) won a GI last time by 2 1/2 on the stretchout to 10F, but not convinced she'll be better at 12F. Looking elsewhere for the winner. #7- Pink Dogwood (5-2) runs her race every time, Moore sticks, might be best on softer going. Right there at the end. #9- Star Catcher (4-1) won impressively from Fleeting at Royal Ascot, acting like more distance and improvement forthcoming, Gosden and Dettori. Another GI-winner for Sea The Stars?
Tri- 9/2,3,7/all

For a second I thought Fleeting was going to get there. More black type though. Hooper

How about that Hoop? Fleeting was really cutting into the winner's margin, got exciting near the wire, GI placing is awesome!

Very satisfying day of racing and wagering in Ireland, didn't miss Saratoga at all (maybe a little...). Hit races three through six, made a tidy sum for the day. Waiting to see how the Monmouth/Haskell card plays out.
