Give me an idea of the roster of invitees so far to this site.
I'll cross reference with my address book and make sure it gets distributed.
We wouldn't want Raggs or Spaulding to get left behind.

THANK YOU, EYE! Here's a thread started in 2007...
Welcome New Members July 7 2007 at 4:57 PM Dell (Premier Login Badactor) Owner Hi Folks... just a note to say hello and WELCOME to new members! If you've found your way to UpInClass, you've found yourself a new home forum.
Note to 300bowler: I've seen you visiting a few times, so I have added you to the group. Looking forward to sharing the forum with you.
It's Summertime @ UpInClass... a great time to join the group. NEW MEMBERS are always welcome, so jump on in and enjoy! Author Reply

3 years ago today... a good many of us were scrambling to find out what the heck happened to the BloodHorse forum. Following the 2004 4th of July weekend, that site was shut down without any warning or announcement that the "good times" were over.
3 years ago today... I was furiously working to create a 'safe and sane' place where I could visit with friends, both old and new, to talk horse racing. The group was important to me and it was my feeling that we needed a home.
3 years ago tomorrow... UpInClass Racing Forum (USA) was born.
I want to thank you all for making this place happen. Without you, there could be no forum. Thank you for a great 3 years! (...and many more to follow!!!)
Now, I'm asking our UIC folks for a little favor. I'm posting this on the "Welcome New Members" thread because I'd like to hear from you why new folks should join. It's always nice when we add new members to our group. So, gimme a reason ...and hopefully, we can turn a few lurkers into new members and friends. ~Dell.
timmye1 (Login timmye1) UpInClass Member Re: Welcome New Members July 8 2007, 4:56 PM
Why? We have some excellent handicappers on this site with different backgrounds and angles. It's a "no lose" site that can only help you progress as a handicapper. Short and sweet and to the point!
'shoes (Login wshoes) Stewards Re: Welcome New Members July 8 2007, 6:29 PM
It's an outstanding community of 'friends' who share a common love of thoroughbread racing and breeding. It's also an eclectic group with many diverse interests who'll occasionally share those interests with us. And finally its headed by a fair and judicious group of stewards who have kept this site from degenerating, as so many other once good sites have.
Besides where else can you be led by one of the great character actors of our time? If you don't believe me watch his work.

I would certainly encourage any of the lurkers/visitors to join in. Whether you're new to the sport, a seasoned 'capper, or just an enthusiast you will find yourself right at home here at UIC. What I enjoy most about this site isn't just the opportunity to pick the brains of some incredibly strong handicappers, but to be able to talk about racing as a fan with others who actually understand and appreciate it. I run into VERY few folks that share even a passing interest in horseracing, so to be able to discuss one of my truly heart felt passions with others who enjoy it equally so is simply irreplaceable.
Dell, thanks again for starting this wonderful site!

Yes, thanks Dell! While the best things are the people & the variety of opinions that MAKE ME THINK, I find that if people don't have anything to say - they don't say it.
Bob S. (Login DejaVuView) UpInClass Member Re:Welcome New Members July 9 2007, 11:45 AM
A reason to join? Because don't be like[add obscure reference]Chauncey Gardner in the movie Being There who always said "I Like to Watch" to everyone all the time.
Being here and participating will add to your obvious love of the game[otherwise you wouldn't be checking out this site regularly],and as a member you can join the discussion to test your ideas or challenge what others say[or just show us what you got]. Look at the 3 year past performances [add Happy Anniversary and Thank You to the Head of the Class Mr. Dell "badactor"Yount for his leadership of the good ship UIC]record of what has been posted here and that'll be all the more reason to get involved yourself[there's no reason to be intimidated by posting or have reluctance to make a fool of yourself sometimes-I do it often myself LOL.] So come out of the cold you've sought and now you've found it's time to let yourself be known friend.

You should join because the forum needs you and you need it. Once you start posting, you will find it very therapeutic. The same goes for reading most threads that you don't post in. If you're like me, you didn't grow up around any horse racing fans. We fans are a rare breed of sicko and we should come here to commiserate with kindred souls.
I think this site is also different than others because there are a lot of different types of fans. There are some true degenerates who won't remember a runner's name or color, just "its" program # and how much "it" paid. Then there are the fans on the polar opposite who if they see a display of heart in a champion, you'd better break out the kleenex, because here come the waterworks. And then there's everyone else in between from the numbers guys, breeding experts, some of the world's finest owners, trip handicappers, & problem solvers. The big plus to that is I don't get the idea that anyone views their particular choice method of prognostication for the sport as being inherrently superior. Happy birthday UIC! Thank you Badactor for providing this site for us!
Jump on in. The water's warm and there are no sharks in it.

Hey Pete--I resemble that remark! Those #s on the saddlecloth are how I tell them apart! I don't even bother with their names.
I can only comment on the handicapping angle. This site has the finest overall group of tbred handicappers of any message board I have ever seen. They are motivational, inspirational, and have turned me on to so many ideas and winners to mention. And they come from virtually everyone, covering all regions of racing.
The sports thinking is also very good. It was a very good football season, and the ncaa hoops talk was also informative.
We have a wonderful host here. It's hard to go off on others, because you don't want to drag the big guy into anything. Besides, working together has made me a much better capper just off the attitude of co-operation and interaction.
Good luck!

Congradulations Dell! Happy Anniversary UIC! Most of all, thank you for this site. I love this place, I feel safe here. Noone in the outside world understands our passion for the horses and the game. I enjoy everyone's opinions here and what I really like is the respect we have for each others opinions. We can all "agree to disagree" without getting personal or attacking each other. I feel like all of you are extended family. If you are new here, please join in on the fun and welcome!

Dell----How did you come up with the name UPINCLASS? I have always wondered about the name and how it came about. For all the lurkers out there, I don't post very often compared to most around here, but I do check this site numerous times a day. Excellent people and pretty good handicappers reside here. You'll love this place after awhile because it will seem like an old friend very quickly. So, come on in and make yourself at home.

I've been in and out of here for several years. The main over-riding aspects that attract most are 1) - when you put up a loser, and the Lord knows I put up a lot of losers, no one ridicules you and 2) many of the people here are like me in two respects - They're pretty decent recreational handicappers and they usually back up their picks with handicapping reasoning. I enjoy reading about the "why this horse instead of that horse", and every now and then after reading someone's thoughts, I slap myself up side my head and think, "Why didn't I see that".

Chaz, It was in the wee small hours of the morning when the name revealed itself to me. BloodHorse II wouldn't work (lol)... I knew we could do better than that. Besides, Dad always taught me to leave somethin' better than you found it. I had considered a good many bad names. TheFlagIsUp was in contention for awhile, but they don't really do that anymore... and some domain names were already taken.
My desk was strewn with papers, old forms and programs... my head was probably in my hands when I looked down, and THERE IT WAS! I wanted the name to reflect the community and the notation in the Past Performances, "Up In Class" seemed to me to be perfectly suited to our group.
Dell.

I'm thankful for those that are still here and all of those that have joined in the intervening years. I miss all of those (well almost all of those), who have dropped off the board.
I had forgotten that my original log-in from blood horse was bjshoes (adding my initials to shoes because bloodhorse wouldn't let me use that for some reason).
We have had our ups and downs, most of us personally, and the forum as a whole, but to quote Sir Elton: "we're still standing."
