50th anniversary coming up in 6 weeks. Wanted to attend the renewal--not sure that anything major is taking place. When I read the list of potential performers I decided to pass. Just released was a 10cd retrospective featuring music from every performer, and extras of the stage announcements and major players + a very nice booklet.
For example, the Friday lineup was: 5pm-Richie Havens 6:15-Sweetwater 7:35-Bert Sommer 8:30-Tim Hardin midnight-Ravi Shankar 1am-Melanie 1:45am-Arlo Guthrie 3am-Joan Baez
Saturday: 12:15pm-Quill 1pm-Country Joe solo 2pm-Santana 3:30-John Sebastian 4:45-Keef Hartley Band 6pm-Incredible String Band 7:30-Canned Heat 9pm-Mountain 10:10-Grateful Dead 12:30am-Creedence Clearwater Revival 2am-Janis Joplin 3:30am-Sly and the Family Stone 5am-The Who 8am-Jefferson Airplane
not a bad 20 hours of music
Sunday: 2pm-Joe Cocker 6:30-Country Joe and the Fish 8:15-Ten Years After 10pm-The Band midnight-Johnny Winter 1:30am-Blood Sweat & Tears 3am-Crosby Stills Nash Young 6am-Butterfield Blues Band 7:30am-Sha Na Na 9am-Jimi
Was there for all of it + Doubt anything now could be comparable--esp for free

We've discussed this before spider that you are the only person I've met that attended what I believe was one of the most culture changing events in our times. Can't blame you for not attending but I probably would if I had the resources and health (of which I am lacking in both)...lol...I agree that nothing would be comparable today by a long shot. Just my opinion.

One of my favorite sets at Woodstock, totally unplanned. I've probably posted it before. Hooper
The next day, as it rained, I stood under one of the covered parts with concert producer Michael Lang and Chip Monck, the lighting director and announcer. Around 3:30 p.m., the rain stopped and Michael said he needed someone to go on with an acoustic guitar because they couldn’t set up amps on stage for Santana until the water was swept off. Michael turned to me and asked if I’d do it. Folk singer Tim Hardin loaned me his Harmony Sovereign guitar.
When Chip announced me on the P.A. system, I went out in what I was wearing—my tie-dyed white denim jacket and tie-dyed white jeans with the cuffs rolled up. I sang five songs, including “Darling Be Home Soon,” which was easy to do as a solo.
