Years ago... after the ninth race - at the end of a day at the race track,
I would stand at the Club House entrance at Santa Anita and watch the valets bring around the fancy automobiles driven by owners, trainers, and high rollers. "Mr. Whittingham's car, please..." a voice over the speaker would announce. 'Mr. & Mrs. So-and-So's car.' and 'Mr. Muckymuck's car.' and "D. Wayne Lukas' car. please." I got a real kick out of seeing the stars of the sport and the vehicles they drove. Nice cars.
One of the nicest cars was a brand new beautiful blue Rolls Royce. It looked like this one, and I remember wondering what a fellow had to do to be able to drive such a fancy vehicle.
A look at the license plate (recreated below) gave me the answer to my question...
On my recent out of town trip to Ridgecrest, CA.,
I saw a lady driving down China Lake Blvd. in the heart of town.
I followed, hoping she would stop at the store or a gas station so I could introduce myself and tell her I admired her license plate.
She never did stop and I had to get to my next performance --- I snapped a photo to share here at UpInClass Horse Racing Forum.
