Honestly, I always rooted against Eldrick back in his heyday. Not quite in Spankyesque fashion, but in the ballpark. That said, today was one of the greatest things I’ve seen in sports. Great tournament, and the atmosphere and reactions at the 18th we’re otherworldly. Tiger seemed to enjoy it more than his other majors, which is a good thing. Always root for the old guy....

Great win for Tiger yesterday. I've been against seeing Tiger win since he was given the title of greatest golfer of all time way before he could even be mentioned in the same sentence as Jack. Yesterday was different. He was now the old guy trying for something that seemed out of reach for years. Great finish and all the parents here know what he was feeling when his son came flying over after the round. :-)
Not going to leave out that PokerStars in NJ had something to do with my initial rooting interest. Under their sports BetStars tab, they had a promo this week where they had an "odds boost" on Tiger winning the Masters. He went from 14-1 to 20-1....but, the first $10 you wagered on him paid off at 100-1. I didn't give Tiger a chance this week, but he was no 100-1 shot and got my $10. According to their twitter page, BetStars paid off over $360,000 from the promotion.

Two things were comparable for me: Nicklaus winning at age 46 when he was long written off as a factor and beating a great cast of golfers including Seve, Greg Norman, Tom Kite and others. That back nine was loaded with drama, and the almost Open Championship for Tom Watson at the age of 59, where he hit what looked like a perfect approach on 18 only to run off the back of the green followed up 2 shots later by a pushed putt which would have won it.
Tiger for all of his great skills has always been mentally tougher than the competition, and that showed again yesterday.

The play at 12 seemed like an unprecedented choke, with four guys at the top of the leaderboard hitting it short in the water, within minutes of each other. Come on, now. How many players do you have to see hit it short before you club up? Jack shot a much better round of golf in '86, with more memorable shots. On the other hand, conditions were ideal that day. Great day yesterday, in any case.
