Almost to the end of the meet and, as last year, a big carryover building day-by-day. Last year GP elected to have the mandatory payout on Florida Derby Day instead of the last day (well, I guess they had consecutive mandatories, then), but I think the big reason for that was Easter was that Sunday. Has anyone heard when the mandatory day will be, assuming it's not hit in between?

Should be closing day of the meet which is 3/31 I think. But they can ask for a specific date which has not been done yet.
(7) A written request for permission to distribute the Rainbow 6 carryover on a specific date shall be submitted to the Division. The request must contain justification for the distribution, an explanation of the benefit to be derived, and the intended date for the distribution. (8) Should the Rainbow 6 carryover be designated for distribution on a specific date, the unique wager provision of this Rule shall be suspended, and the entire pool shall be distributed as a single price pool to those whose selection finished first in the greatest number of Rainbow 6 contests. The Rainbow 6 carryover shall be designated for distribution on a specified date and performance only under the following circumstances: (a) Upon written approval from the Division as provided in Section (7) above. (b) When the Rainbow 6 is discontinued. (c) On the closing day of the meet. (9) If for any reason the Rainbow 6 carryover must be held over to the corresponding Rainbow 6 pool of a subsequent meet, the carryover shall be deposited into an interest bearing account as approved by the Division. The Rainbow 6 carryover, plus accrued interest, shall then be added to the net Rainbow 6 pool of the following meet. (10) Permitholders may suspend previously approved Rainbow 6 wagering with the prior approval of the Division. Any carryover shall be held until the suspended Rainbow 6 wagering is reinstated.

It will be interesting to see how the Racing Secretary sets up the card on March 30. In the past when there has been a mandatory payout, they have tried to structure the card so that each of the races in the Rainbow 6 has a maximum field size, requiring serious players to increase their coverage on each race. No "free squares" or "almost free squares" could be found.
Having the mandatory payout on Florida Derby day could change that equation to some degree. The condition book lists 14 races for the day's card, of which 7 are stakes races. While some of the lesser stakes races could be placed early in the card if they did not have full fields, tradition suggests that at least the Pan American, the Florida Oaks and the Florida Derby will be later in the card and thereby part of the Rainbow 6. The last I read, the Florida Derby contemplated a field of 10 or so, with some possible defections. So, we may see a Rainbow 6 that has, say, three races with overflowing fields and the other three with slightly more manageable fields. Still requires a sizeable bankroll to attack it with any degree of confidence, but perhaps not quite as daunting as in the past.
I believe that the draw for the Florida Derby will be on Wednesday.

I believe that the draw for the Florida Derby will be on Wednesday. Lol...I expect at least a minimum of four races at 5 or 5.5 furlongs ....lol...and low field claimers in a mixed age group....lol...that type of card....lol..

I believe that the draw for the Florida Derby will be on Wednesday. No guarantee they exactly follow the condition book but it has 5 stakes races and then a 1 mile MSP to close the card. I hope they keep it as it's listed.

I guess if you're gonna reply to a post, you should read the full message. LOL
JolyB, last year when they had the mandatory on Fla Derby day I believe the 5 graded stakes were part of it (or at least 4 of them?). Hoping that is the case this year. May not hit it but GP has so many races that look like complete chaos to me that I don't even want to try.
