If you don't watch MSNBC,
you don't know what's happening.

I share space with someone who watches informative TV all afternoon and they are more than willing to fill me up....to be honest.....there is nothing I can do that will change the world....and the chaos in the world with the lack of compassion for others is stressing....I would rather not know...I have been told that is an ignorant stance but I deal with enough at work and people around me to need any more added....especially if I am unable to do anything about it....

hoop- that roughly matches up with my own observations from observing friends, family, and their children (teen and adult). It is a bit scary to me how much the younger generation seems to rely almost exclusively on opinion leaders from their peers as opposed to digesting information on their own and reaching their own conclusions or at least raising questions. It feels like we have become a nation of people living in echo chambers, with a majority of people seeking confirmation of their pre-conceived opinions, while rejecting out of hand non-conforming opinions.
Michelle, I can appreciate and sympathize with your attitude. I go a different way, consuming a fair amount from very varied sources.

Thumbs up on MSNBC. I watch as much news as probably anyone here (don't get out much). I usually start with Morning Joe but it has changed into more of Joe and Mikas clamoring about personal feelings about how much they despise NO POLITICS , especially Mika. I will switch over to Fox early to see them whine about something. Keeps me balanced to see what they say but can only take it in short amounts. I also watch HSN because Robin Meade is fine and they seem to not bring such much political seasoning to the show. In a nutshell. When I wanna watch real news I go to CBS...opinions...the stations mentioned.

I am clearly spending too much time on news and opinion. I read the Wash Post, WSJ, NYT, LA Times, and Boston Globe and sometimes the British papers, all at least once a week. I watch PBS, Fox Business, CBS, MSNBC, the BBC international feed, and CNBC, all with some regularity and occasionally other channels. Online I will read Maureen Dowd, Michelle Malkin, and because if I don't, I'd be missing someone who a huge number of people are reading or listening too- Rush Limbaugh. My good friend Gooch will occasionally send me pieces from Paul Krugman. I have to limit my NYT reading because I only get so many free articles a month, and I no longer subscribe.

IMO, you gotta read the papers to get the news. Maybe the occasional CBS or NBC show. I don't believe that cable news provide actual news any more, though some are obviously more reliable the others. As an old retired guy, I have time, so I read the New York Times, LA Times, Boston Globe, and SF Chronicle (sports only) in the morning. I look at CNN and BBC websites for updates. I'm not on Facebook, and get zero news from social media. Social media has a lot to do with breaking down critical thinking in the world, imo, although that really began with talk radio--a haven for misinformation. I channel flip the cable stuff for an hour or so in the evening, if I am feeling too good and want to upset myself.....
