Is it just me or is this going to far? Opening Day is not really Opening Day to me when it happens in Japan of all places! The un-official beginning to baseball? Seems un-American to me.
When is MLB Opening Day 2019?
It will be an early start to the baseball season, as all 30 teams will be in action on Thursday, March 28. It is the second straight year every team will be playing on Opening Day. The unofficial beginning to the season is Wednesday, March 20. The Mariners and Athletics play a two-game set in the 2019 Japan Opening Series at the Tokyo Dome.

MLB is just selling their product. The NFL is in England and I see other European cities getting a game. Opening day might not be a great day for the effort but only one team gets to play opening day at home, the other away. Both teams will get their home opening day which is really all that matters.

I liked it when you had one opening day in Washington or Cincinnati, and then the other teams played the next day. That way as a Tigers fan I had two or three openers to look forward to- The National opening day and then the Tigers opener, which if they opened on the road, there would be a third opener (for their first home game). I would sneak my little 6 transistor radio to school with me and lean down into my desk to catch snippets when the teacher wasn't looking.
