There are musical soundtracks with songs and then those that provide mood music. This is a pretty good example of the latter.

In the late 80s Ray Davies (of the Kinks) wrote an entire musical for an adaptation of the classic novel Around the World in 80 Days. It was performed at the La Jolla Playhouse in California. It was very, very good but alas no cast recording survives. There have been various bootlegs over the years of demos of the songs that Ray created to show the cast how he envisioned them

I've a soft spot for sweepingly romantic soundtracks...
These are two of my favorites.
Especially, this next one - - - > I was in love with Lesley-Anne Down.

A brilliant piece of film making with a favorite piece of music... Gymnopédies, No. 1, Erik Satie.

Who was cooler than Steve MacQuuen? Loved the Thomas Crown Affair back in the day. I thought the remake with Pierce Brosnan wasn't bad either. I had forgotten that the newer version also used the Michel Legrand composition until I looked d it up.
Rank sentimentalist that I am I also loved Demy's The Umbrellas of Cherbourg starting the beautiful Catherine Deneuve which was also scored by Legrand and was unique in that all of the dialog was "sung."

May not have been a great movie to most (I love it). However, it has a wide range of music from Gospel to Meatloaf.
